2026 China–International Engineering Capacity-Building Program (Smart Dam) Held in Chengdu: What's Changed

2026 China–International Engineering Capacity-Building Program (Smart Dam) Held in Chengdu

On September 6, the 2026 China–International Engineering Capacity-Building Training Program, focused on the smart dam sector, was held in Chengdu, bringing together more than 50 dam engineers from China, Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia and other countries.

Under the theme Empowering Reservoir Dam Construction and O&M with Digital Intelligence, the program explored frontier fields including digital twin dam construction and intelligent monitoring and early warning. China's dam construction technology achievements and innovative applications were showcased through technical presentations, field visits, workshop discussions and cultural experiences.

During the program, the engineers visited the Zipingpu Water Control Project, toured two national key laboratories — the State Key Laboratory of Intelligent Construction and Healthy O&M of Deep Underground Engineering, and Sichuan University's State Key Laboratory of Mountain River Protection and Management — and joined a cultural study tour at Dujiangyan.

The program was hosted by the China Federation of Engineering Societies (CFES) and organized by PowerChina International Group, the Sichuan Association for Science and Technology (SAST) and the China Society for Hydropower Engineering. It established a platform for exchanges between Chinese and international engineers, fostering mutual learning and standards alignment to empower the high-quality development of water conservancy projects under the Belt and Road Initiative.
